Writing

What kind of a writer am I? I love this question but also hate answering it. A writing style is a difficult thing to confine to an explanation but I'll attempt. I see myself as a completionist, I like stories that arc and land somewhere. I'm a writer for theme, I like stories that centre around an interesting discussion and I like stories that have something to say. I'm also a writer for world, I like immersive and atmospheric details. Those are the most important things to me when I tell a story.
I write to process things in my life. I will often use writing as a tool to express and let go of emotions that are moving through me. Before I was a screenwriter, I was a songwriter, music has always been a deep part of my writing. When I write music I'm able to allow my mind to go blank and a story to appear. As a screenwriter the process is different but the result is the same. I believe the heart is always living in the world of story and the storyteller must only meditate to connect the dots.
I'm something of a baby screenwriter, I'm working toward a degree in film with a writing major. I've written 4 short screenplays during my time in film school. I've written for 3 non-narrative pieces that were produced in my program including the documentary I directed, "Formless". I'm still developing my skills while working on 4 ongoing projects including a movie musical, and my first feature screenplay.
I also have experience as a story editor through my program. I've had an opportunity to story edit multiple student screenplays including one that went into production.
